Announcing you’re on vacation is a dumb idea.

Once in a while I check Failbook to have a good laugh with some Facebook fail moments. While checking Failbook last night, I saw something which shouldn’t really be laughed at. It was a failblogpost about fifty homes that were robbed in one city (and in one month) because the owners had told on social network sites like Facebook that they were on vacation or away from their home for a while. Stupid ha! But we all do it… I’ve seen a lot Facebook statuses changed this Summer to ‘@ Kreta’, ‘surfing in Spain’ or just ‘on vacation’. And with the growing use of Foursquare or Facebook Places the risk will only increase.

So be careful next time you tell to whole online world where you are…
